I don't know about BG Events, but I do know a little bit about promoting mid level ($1000-5000 added) pool tournaments and I also know a little bit about organizing gambling junkets....

People who attend the Vegas event coming up might consider taking an informal tally of how much casino action results from the people who come out to play/watch. iMO, 10-15% of the total is what they should be adding to the purse.

It also doesn't look like there is much emphasis placed on spectators, which is understandable, but we've found that even without selling tickets they are a big part of pulling off a successful event.

I understand better than most how promoting hobbyist events is not a great way to make money. Rather the reverse. Hats off to the people dedicated enough to take big risks to make little money while working super hard doing it.

It just sucks that the national championship of such an established game like backgammon can't seem to generate more interest than what it does.
