I would play 8/4 5/1 almost automatically here. If the opponent has enough checkers off that we probably wouldn't want to stick around with a six anyway then we might as well play 8/6 now. With 8/6 being played the next forced part of the play is 5/1 as it slots our ace point which we'll like to have a checker on should we get to a last roll situation with our last remaining checker in our outfield. A man on the ace will let us bear off with aces that would otherwise miss. Also, if we happen to get super lucky and hit a shot haven't it slotted and potentially made at that point will be a good thing. There's only one deuce left. 6/4 is the only option that makes sense.

I'm guessing someone had the thought of making the ace point here or saving a six? The gammon spike compared to the win increase will not make it worth it with our opponent having so many checkers off already.
