Hey I have just realised, this is not a sea of choices its a sea of ROT's that are doing the drowning. Don't bury your checkers don't sacrifice your midpoint. It appears I do not have this problem and I put this down to my approach to the game and my total lack of real playing experience. It's all about roll odds for me. The eye is immediately drawn to blues four runners, misery in store with 12 pointers. Play 24/20 , it gets worse. Ah surely that's a ROT, don't slot the point your opponent cherishes. Only two are playable but they dont look promising. How about the tower on the six point, a clash of ROT's here. If I play 6/4(2) seems ok as brown got the high anchor and a home point is money in the bank, that leaves the blots on 8 and 9. Her's a ROT for you "keep your troops in front of the enemy" 13/9 13/9. ROT's are a great aid but there are times when its best to break them. What about them blotty runners? well there are 24 rolls thats 67% that are not so painful, thats a cup 2/3 full cant be bad.

Sometimes best plays are clouded by Gammon chances not a problem here. There was a time when I could not understand why Gammon chances in XG were not reflected in game winning chances. We all have our crosses to bear. I was going to ask Mr Xavier why so, he would have fallen off his chair.
