1. Skill

2. Stamina

3. Luck. ( both the luck of the dice and the luck of the draw)

4. Cheating

5. Knowledge of the rules.

I stress this last point because many go into a tournament with no idea about the rules of the game and the particular rules of that tournament. Sit down and think you are playing to the wrong number of points. Or you don't realize if and how you can capitalize on an opponent's illegal play or fast rolling. Or maybe you take too long a break.

Don't sit down at the table without getting a copy of the rules and reading them and remember, the rules from tournament to tournament vary.
