I would also have played 16/10.

Regarding the 8pt, White's chief liability is her bar anchor, which she needs to try to break safely. Holding the 8pt means we get a double shot if she leaves the anchor with non-doublets.

A secondary point is flexibility. We don't have many spares and I'd regard the 8pt as my last reserve of spare moves. I don't want to use up that reserve with this roll since 16/10 is acceptable—it's no bargain for White to hit us on the 10pt.

Finally, breaking the 8pt might be justifiable if it gave us a beautiful board, but here it doesn't.
