21$-32D-63 Position ID: 4HPKATDQc+QBMA Match ID: cAkPAAAAAAAA C (Cross) = 24/18, 8/5
c (cross) = 24/21, 11/5In the C (Cross) family, half a roll is played to a destination on the far side of the board, while the other half is played jumping over the bar to a destination in the inner board. Thus, both of the plays in question belong in the Cross family.
Like most Nactation families, the Hit-More-6 Rule is used to rank plays in the Cross family when there is more than one member. There are only a few exceptions, such as the Slot families, where other ranking rules are applied. Different rules are used in the Slot families, because hitting and slotting are not compatible!
Hit-More-6 is relatively straightforward. Plays that hit rank at the top. If there are no hits, then making or retaining more points takes priority. When two plays hold the same number of points, then the distance of made points to the 6pt is compared. Closer is better. Finally, when all other things are equal, the destinations of checkers that end up as blots and spares when they are moved in a play is compared. Once again, closer to the 6pt is better, except that blots and spares in the outer board are preferred when they are farther from the 6pt.
Neither of the two plays with which you are concerned hit. Both result in the same set of owned points. It is the final tie-breaker, therefore, the destinations of checkers that end up as blots or spares when they are move in a play, that decides the ranking.
In the first, 24/18 8/5, a blot lands on the 18pt. In the second, a blot lands on the 21pt. The checkers that land on the 5pt are used to make that point, so they are not considered to be blots or spares. Since the 18pt is closer to the 6pt than the 21pt, the first play ranks higher. Note that the blots you mention on the 8pt and 11pt are not used in the ranking because neither one is moved in its play.
