If we play 24/17 we still have a long road home and they hit with 3's,7's, and 12's and we are then often G'd anyhow. If we don't hit they can also make our 15 pt with 5's and 41 and have a very playable game.

I think it is better to try to use our 4 pt board and also to raise our G stakes vs them. I'll hit 16/10x and then we must step up with the ace. 24/23.

So since I am playing 24/23 as part of either play I take a long look at the board deeply after 24/23 and I do think hitting is best. If things work out..ie dance (44.4%) and a decent roll for us and a poor response from them (ie dance again) we can often escape with the cube (assuming we don't get a 6 next roll). Hitting also looks like the DMP play to me.
