Challenging position. I hope we will discuss this position in a consultation later on. I think there are two very different ideas:
- Espaping with the backchecker 24/23/17
- Hitting the blot on the 10-point 16/10*. There are three plausible variants if we hit:
- Doublehit: 16/10* 6/5*
- Lifting the blot: 16/10* 3/2
- Moving to the edge of the prime 16/10* 24/23
I'm not convinced of the double hit, because it seems to be much too bold a move. I therefore want to discard that play. Freeing the backchecker is attempting, but I'm not sure if it is effective enough. 16/10* will send one of the opponent's checkers back to the bar. Thus, we can gain a little tempo in order to improve our position. Bottom line is: I'm torn between two moves:
- 16/10* 3/2 and
- 16/10* 24/23
Albeit 16/10* 3/2 might be considered coward, it is my favourite play as I understand this positon. I think there will be a time slot to move to the edge of the prime and to jump over it. Nevertheless, this time slot is very narrow.
16/10* 3/2
(...and I still hope this roll can be discussed in a consultation...)
