In Response To: ruling in the Nordic Open SJ (christian munk-christensen)

Interesting discussion. I was TD at Nordic Open and was the one to call the ruling. If someone should request someone to be banned from BG it can ONLY be the TD in my opinion, not players who was there or players who just heard rumors about what happened.

In the situation, the two players shook hand and left the table. Victor claimed afterwards that he only said “good game”. But honestly who say “good game” shake hand and leave the table… Not many. I judged that Victor resigned the match. Then I asked if they both were aware that they played to 11 points from the beginning and they said that they both knew that (if both thought they played to 9 Victor would have lost the match). Now the question is, can you resign my mistake? I have seen many resigning a game in a bearoff where they still had a chance to win in and normally this is accepted. But what about the entire match? In the situation I judged that Victor could not resign by mistake and that they had to play from 10-2cr. I told them why I ruled the way I did (§4.6 and §1 in the rules http://www.nordicopen.dk/fileadmin/nordicopen/images/format/Tournament_rules.pdf).

I also heard that Jason told someone to be quiet about the fact that the match was not over. However it was always from someone who heard that someone told that – not from anyone who actually saw it or from the person who was involved. Based on this ruling and what actually happened, I do not feel that it justifies the wording used about Jason in this thread. That he should be banned for this is just absurd in my opinion. Anyone are entitled to ask for a ruling. It must always be allowed to play by the rules… even when the rules seem to be wrong. I have seen far worse behaviors in my time as TD. And Jason accepted my ruling right away and did not want a committee.
