Is lying to a TD a big deal?

If I was a TD and was sure that someone had lied to me about a situation that had occurred I would forfeit them out of the event and ban them from playing in my events for three years and ask my country's BG fed to do the same.

The point is that I'd have to be sure. Since any well run event has a tournament committee to consider things, they'd also have to be sure said player lied to me.
