Thanks, Mike. That would explain it.

Suppose the lower ply were used as it is now, but when that triggered a resignation offer, a higher-ply were used to double-check. That way, GnuBg might miss some games that were gin, and fail to resign (because the lower ply did not detect them), but at least it would not make unfair resignation offers such as this one when the lower ply returns a bad result.
