The Falafel Quiz

My plays here are tainted by the fact that I watched the entire exhibition already. In most of these positions, however, I have forgotten Falafel’s preference. In the others, my recollection is vague, at best.

Phil has a ton of work to do before he can claim this game. I think he needs to keep the back of the prime slotted, and split the midpoint in order to maximize covers.

If Phil can escape one runner before he cracks, the other one will usually take of itself when Mochy will crashes. Phil can escape one checker with any 6, but he also has 7 cracking numbers: 55, 54, 53, 44, and 22. In addition, if Phil hits with 52 or 43, then Mochy may dance, and thereby avoid cracking himself. If O’Hagan’s law is to be applied, should some of Phil’s 7 bad rolls be subtracted from the 11 rolls that escape? What about gammons? Mochy’s position is likely to leave blots in many variations when it crashes. Not sure at all about this one, but Mochy’s timing is so bad, I want to cube this, and let him worry about the gammons and the take. Against most opponents, this is a great practical cube, because you will get many passes. As for me, I pass.

I like making the 4pt, 8/2 6/4. Some factors in favor of this move: Phil has a blot in his board, and he is just about out of time. Phil may try running if Mochy leaves two blots inside himself.

Down by 34 pips, Phil must hit sooner or later. Should he give up his broken prime and risk a direct shot to do that now? It looks tempting. If he waits another turn, Mochy might fill in another point in his board. On the other hand, barring doublets, Mochy cannot safety both of his blots on the next turn. If Phil plays safe now, Mochy may not roll a 5, and even if he does, Phil should still get a direct shot at one of his blots. I’ll try the safe play, 24/18 9/6.
