Thank you Stick, for an excellent recap.
Tom Bucker, who had graciously underwritten this event has agreed to do it again next year and has made me the Chair of a committee to redesign and improve the competition and to make it shorter, more fun, and more varied in terms of the props involved and the players involved.
There were many things about this first one that we terrific and fun, and several things we all know can be improved to make it a better competition and "show" for the public, and I know next year will be a truly amazing event for all to see.
I know that everyone involved had fun, and that is my number one goal in promoting backgammon to the world. Next time will be even more fun....I promise you that.
On another note, the people on this forum are amongst the best in the world, and PR and playing skill is very important to us. We all know that both Mochy and I are capable of playing better than the PR's posted in this match, but again, the second half of the match, out of courtesy to Tom and the schedule for the party (which was as much fun for us all as the competition!), Mochy and I played superfast the second half of the match and both missed many plays in the interest of time. But we intentionally did not show XG along with the match, and we won't next year.
We want to focus on the excitement of the game...the "cubemanship" and "creativity" of the play, and the fun of the game for the general public, as our goal is to end up with something on YouTube that will showboat backgammon. We want to make it a lot more than can Phil beat Mochy or X beat Y with a spot.
We want people to see that this is truly the most exciting, and skillful game on the planet, and that the people who play it are good sports and have fun and enjoy the game immensely.
Next year's competition, and commentary, will focus on those goals. In the meantime, during the next 12 months we have to plan the next event, I welcome all suggestions and comments and criticisms as I highly value the opinions of the people on this forum. But please keep the above goals in mind. Thanks to Tom's sponsorship, and the cooperation of Howard Markowitz, and the help of people like Tuvya and Mochy and Carter and Falafel, we have the ability to create something really special and exciting. A great opportunity that I do not want to squander.
