You're right that your problem avoids ambiguity, but I think that a large part of Kahneman's point is that these kinds of problems arise in the real world where psychologically it's easier to fall into intuitive but incorrect reasoning. He's documented many cases where trained scientists, who would easily be able to calculate the answer to abstract puzzles of this type, still trip up because the real-world situation doesn't trigger their "tricky probability problem" alarm system.
