we played on fibs and typed back and forth because long-distance telephone would have cost more than the lesson.

Back in the wild wild west days of the internet, one of my college roommates used FIBS as a chat client to talk to one of his many long distance lady friends. Or maybe they were playing long distance strip backgammon, I have no idea.
