When I really started taking Backgammon seriously around Christmas, I was using GNU. I finally bought XG at the beginning of February and I had 50 or 60 7pt matches saved. My GNU PR was around 9.5. When I ran the same the same matches back through XG I came out at 7.4. Right there I knew it was the best money I ever spent.
Since then my PR has has actually gone up. I hover around 8. My checker play is a around 7.5 and my cube play is way up in the upper 9s. The thing I have found is that I'll go through periods where I play a bunch of matches below 6 and then have a few plus 10s that take me back into the 8PR range. I look at the decision graph chart a lot and the match summery screen to look at different clumps of matches. I dont keep stats on matches played against XG. I focus on not making huge blunders (<.120).
I have found that the better I roll the worse my PR. I think it is because the better you roll the more choices you have and cube decisions. I generally have the lowest PR when rolls are bad, especially inthe cube department.
Lately, I've started playing 7pt Nackgammon matches against roller++. I play the game out, but if I don't finish at below a 5PR for the game I'll go back to the first blunder and play the game again with the same rolls. I do that each game until I finish the match under 5pr. My Nackgammon game has Improved. If I have a bad PR in a GG match I'll replay it like that as well. It's amazing how much not making big blunders affects the flow of a match.
