I would look here at routes to victory. Pointing offers a simple rout to victory, and unless we get hit by a 61 from the bar we remain with a lot of flexibility, good chances of winning, and a variety of routes to victory. 8/2* is also pretty good, but seems to be a bit more complicated. Basically in the most common route to victory (brute force - keep opponent on the bar and escape), there would need to be be an additional step, "cover" or "avoid being hit". Is knocking your opponent from the edge sufficient to justify this? I don't think so, especially as 6s would be duplicated (escape and cover).
Hitting two makes winning a timing battle too difficult, and 8/3 8/7 gives up on winning by force. so these two should be out.
