Variation: play for table stakes

Phil has posted a variation of the game http://www.bgonline.org/forums/webbbs_config.pl?noframes;read=179748 and others have discussed Bluff Gammon.

What about simply playing for table stakes? I think that is a term Neil K used when I posted a question about it a while back.

Each player has a fixed number of chips (dollars, yen, euros . . . whatever), say, 50 and they play money games. The players' maximum risk is their table stake, in this case 50.

This would change the dynamics of the game with respect to the cube, e.g., if you have only 3 chips left, taking any cube above 2 would be a free ride.

This may be a way to limit the stress of money play and perhaps even entice newbies and fish like me to play against sharks.
