I agree with 7/4 5/3 which also helps to close the board so that we win more often after hitting. If we retain the 23 pt and our opp rolls a number that forces him odd, we break it next turn and hope for a double shot. If we break the 23 pt, he hits us with a 2 and we often don't get another shot if we miss. Also if we retain the 23 pt now, we are happy to keep it again if our opp comes down to two checkers on his 4 pt.

To me, 7/4 5/3 is best here.
