Folding a check?

We have many choices in backgammon where giving up a small chunk of equity is considered an error. E.g. not playing on for a very unlikely gammon when there is no sequence that fails to allow at least a cash next turn.
Maybe in the bot era we are getting to the point where we assume our opponent(s) will make the right play because the bot always does.
You can argue "no one will miss this cube", but I have trophies on my shelf that prove otherwise (along with empty spaces for trophies I've forfeited with less-than-bot-perfect plays myself :).
