One more remark:

However, if a player does not show up for his first match he will be cancelled from the auction and the money paid for him will be refunded.

Now if such a player happens to be part of a field of let’s say three players, there seems to be no other fair solution than refunding a third of the auction price of the entire field to its buyer.

If the best player in the field does not play, this is a bad occurrence to the buyer of the field; if the least good player does not show, it is to the buyer’s advantage.
