I like running.

Pointing on the 2pt (P = 8/2 6/2) leaves a direct shot, while making a point that is deeper than we really need.

Splitting (S = 24/18 13/9) leaves too many hitting numbers, although 4 would be duped. In addition, a checker on the 18pt dupes 1 and 3, while serving as a distraction for an opponent who would otherwise prefer to make an inside point rather than attack on the bar point. If we did not have to leave a direct shot on our side of the board, I would play S. In 2010, Nack Ballard wrote an interesting piece entitled Splitting/staying on the 18pt versus a 10pt builder that is tangentially relevant to today's position.

Slotting the 3pt (% = 13/3) might be worth a look, but has two negatives. First, we have only 1 spare within range to cover, and second, a slot on the 3pt is less effective because the opponent has already started our 5pt.

R (Run) = 24/14

Nactation: In the Run family, all dice are played on the far side of the board, with at least one checker landing somewhere between the 17pt and midpoint.
