I'd reject the ugly safe play and hit. Even the 11 returns are far from fatal with his open five point, his zero checkers in the zone, and our semi-prime. And if missed he could be forced to bury a checker or two. As I'm typing this however I see another down side of hitting is he could make the ace - or even 2 - point and have more of a game - at dmp - than he has now. Another possible move is 15/9, 4/2 which leaves only 8 non-breaking aces for blue and is not nearly as ugly as the safe play. I just talked myself into that play - 15/9, 4/2. With hitting a close 2nd and safe a not as close 3rd. Now to see how wrong I am.
