I think at anything below championship level that there will be enough wrong passes for me to double. When I look at match score, being the aggressor seems like the thing to do. To use a poker metaphor here, I liken doubling to putting in a medium sized semi-bluff. I like my hand whether I get a call or a fold because I have plenty of equity. If the game goes to hell in a handbasket I am not too invested (pot committed) in it that I can't fold to the later action of a redouble. I still will have a 2 point lead and in the event that the game goes horribly wrong and I get gammoned I will still be even money. I would much rather put my opponent to the test than end up grinding it out. If I was on the receiving end of this I think I would be taking all the way unless I was sure my competition would be seriously outplayng me.
