It's kind of like what was proven long ago, immediate misplays to opening moves will not counter balance you making even relatively small errors on the opening roll.

Apples and oranges. You looking at a relatively small number of misplays mediocre on 2nd roll. In the position from this thread opportunities for large cube errors will often arise roll after roll. While cumulative frequency of future cube is nowhere near 100%, it is still should be high. I don't expect too many drops if we double now (perhaps you have a different take on this). So, it is quite possible that if we wait, there will be enough positions with higher rate of error, or size of error.
