Phil, you make some good points with respect to how people actually learn this game. As a teacher, you have specialized knowledge in that area, and thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience.

As an intermediate player, myself, I found that the article was well laid out and the low hanging fruit was presented very early into the paper. The first 3 rules can be learned by a beginner in 5 minutes, and will certainly improve their game, and it has improved mine. After that, I scanned the rest of the article, and indeed, as you mentioned, I found much of it to be overwhelming. I don't know if I will go so far as to learn the 26 exceptions. However, I suspect that most serious players will look at the article in great detail. Players of all levels will delve into the paper as far as their interest takes them.

I do understand that your comments were aimed at improving learning for all players at all levels, and your efforts in that regard are appreciated and acknowledged. I'd also like to applaud Jeremy for sharing his efforts and his intellect in a well presented article which can enhance the game for every player.
