There are three candidates according to my understanding:

  • 13/7 8/7
  • 13/6
  • 8/1

The pip count is about to be even; Blue is 4away/7away. White has a very strong home board, and she won't have any difficulties of playing her checkers. Blue, however, might suffer from the lack of having checkers to move with in a safe manner (too many points). For this reason, I would reject the reflex play 13/7 8/7 because this play creates a new point which has to be cleared very soon. Moreover, the barpoint isn't that important any longer since Blue simply intends to win the race. The blocking effect of the barpoint is marginal.
Compared with 8/1, I like the artless 13/6. It doesn't create wastage, and is strongly concerned with winning the race. Additionally, 13/6 increases the likelihood of making the essential 5- or 4-point by providing a new builder.
