There is a kind of precedent, in one sport at least, of giving more favourable conditions to lower ranked participants. I remember some minor motor racing event - I think it may have been go-karting - where the higher you were placed in the points classification the further back you started on the grid.

You could also say that giving possession of the ball, in the centre of the pitch, to teams that have just conceded a goal/points, such as soccer or rugby, is following a reverse principle: having a drop ball in the centre would be a neutral re-start.
