Although I selected a different move, yours is a great explanation of the decision tree we each should have followed on this play. Consciously or unconsciously, I think its the one that most of us did follow. Being able to enunciate it clearly, as you have done, makes it easier to keep track of the strategy you are following.

The reason I went with breaking the midpoint is so that we could hold onto our block. If we can keep a four-point block, the Dillies might get stuck on their anchor. If that happens, they will often be forced to abandon another one of their blocking points, and probably pretty soon. After that, we may be able to lift our anchor, launching two checkers into the outfield.

There's a lot of "if" there, I know, but there are other variations as well where holding our block will pay off for us.
