If you must make a play that leaves opponent with a solid advantage though not a strong cube there is a benefit to choosing a play with a great amount of volatility. The timing of the double is less likely to be efficient, there may even be a Wisecarver paradox where the best play gives the opponent a correct cube and the next best play does not.
