Here is a related triviality which I find somewhat surprising (and have never seen stated that way):
If your opponent has cube access, but can't cash after your play, your equity after your play can be computed as (your equity supposing you owned the cube on the next level) minus (the size of your opponent's hypothetical error on doubling you after your play, or zero if your opponent does have a correct double).
I.e. when you have a choice of plays that would be close if you owned the cube already, the one which brings your opponent closest to a correct double or, even better, a Wisecarver play, tends to be correct.
