Point on Him

Making the deuce is probably slightly better at DMP, but only slightly. Making the deuce also loses slightly fewer g's, but again no big difference. The only big difference is gammons won and that's where making the 3 is a lot better. The extra builder is great if White dances or enters without hitting which should lead to noticeably more g's. If we knew that White would make an anchor after either play, I would also choose to make the 3-point. If we make the 3 and he rolls a deuce, at least we've make the point right in front of his anchor (which is very helpful in avoiding shots in the bearoff). OTOH, if we PoH on the deuce and he rolls a 3, his resulting 22-pt game will be a lot stronger than normal since our 4-pt is vacant and we won't have that many ways to fill it in.
PoH on the 3 is one of those "way worse on 2 numbers but better on the remaining 34" kind of positions. I think the gains on the other 34 outweigh the loss on those 2.
The DMP play is usually correct unless some other play either wins quite a few more net g's or loses quite a few less. The extra net g's won are the key in this position.
