If you are playing on a board, how will xg know if you are playing a match or for money? How will it know how long a match. This has to be input somewhere. Car will build this into the unit that also holds the clock. Also, when you play a match you often use a clock so why not have it altogether ?
Even if you don't use the clock for the purposes of a clock, hitting the clock is a good way to show when one player's turn is over. I strongly believe backgammon should be played with one pair of dice--but of course you don't have to.
It's possible to use our software without a clock by just putting the settings in xg. But remember our goal is to allow people to play on a board and put it into xg later with a flash drive too--otherwise you always have to have a laptop by the board and that is something most people will not want to do. So if it all goes into a flash drive, that too would be a removable flash in the clock. So the clock is a lot more than just a clock. It is the integrated control system.
