This is very interesting. For the community, but also for my own project, which tries to develop something similar.

Is your partner the only engineer working on this project? Does he so full-time (if you want to share these facts)? I'm asking, because doing this alone in not more than half a year would be a very great achievement, as I can say from my own experience.

Though, you made some good decisions, which makes your live definitely easier than mine:

First, you also sell the equipment. I assume that the camera is positioned over the center of the board. That makes it way easier, I had to put a lot of effort into managing perspective from the side of the board.

Second, you have the clock, and thus a definite point when a move ends. I have to figure this out by analyzing the dynamics of the hands, and the rolling dice. Which really took up a lot of time. Do you indeed use the clock that way?

I'm not sure, whether I like the just in time transcription. To my experience, it will be extremely hard to write a software which will have problems to read the board in less than one time per game on average. Having to sort this out over the board during a tournament would really bother me. Doing this later at home at my computer wouldn't be a problem. Maybe you should optionally allow to split the recording and the transcribing.
