Thanks Stick, good post.

I had never heard the phrase, but could work it out easily enough. And while I had never heard it specifically in reference to bodybuilding, I have heard of the practice being semi-common in Hollywood circles. Besides reading a rather dishy book by a fellow who pimped his fellow ex-Marines (right after WWII) to famous folk in Hollywood, my brother-in-law (that is, my sister-in-laws brother, whatever that is to me) told me he used to hang out at a gay bar (he was gay) and there were guys tricking out of the bar. One of them was an EXTREMELY good looking actor, who was straight, but starving. Then he got his breakthrough, and ... kept turning tricks because he got a kick out of it. I trust Ernie's (brother-in-law's) judgment the guy was straight, and the fact that he is a married man is literally known worldwide, but he was "gay for pay."

If anyone wants to read a very good, but sobering story of one man's obsession with bodybuilding, I'd recommend "Muscle," by Samuel Fussell. (And if you want to wallow in salacious gossip by reading the book about the ex-Marine, it is "Full Service," by Scotty Bower.)
