Weird backgammon

Here's a weird backgammon situation that I encountered yesterday.
In the Crawford, I had borne off all but five of my checkers. I had one on my 6-point and four on my 1-point, and white had a single checker threatening my blot. It was a very weird moment for me to roll double aces! Hitting him made no strategic sense. It was better to bear off four checkers and hope he wouldn't roll an ace.

But he did roll an ace, putting me on the bar against his five-point board.

White was able to take off seven men, and I began to worry that he might tie the match. The situation was strange enough, but it had to happen in the Crawford game!
Happily, because I had only a single checker, when I finally came off the bar I was able to whip around the board and take the match.

I'm always fascinated by the bizarre occurrences that pop up in backgammon, and this is one of the stranger that I've encountered in a while. What are some that you've experienced, or witnessed?
Thanks!
