An old Bulgarian saying goes: Work for nothing, but don't stay idle. The modern Bulgarian saying (between BG players) is do not work for nothing, you can play for nothing.

The old Bulgarian saying is: never delay today's job for tomorrow. The modern (also as a joke) is: Do not delay today's job for tomorrow, if you can for the next day...

Yes, it is thematic to clear the barpoint before the remaining 2-3 checkers, especially if they are nearby and the task remains for "tomorrow" if not done today. Direct shots in the near future may be scary and in addition to creating speedboard with surpluses on the high home points (shots even if they come will be not the next day but next week - less damaging).
