Just Wondering...

This is a really interesting perspective. I have been watching a tremendous amount of open play and amateur play on the internet this month rather than watch xg play against itself. Where I live, a city of about 1 Million, there is no organized backgammon, and there is no disorganized backgammon.

From my perspective people don't think like bots and both bots and people have styles. Wins/Losses are statistical variance but I like to watch the play which varies from player to player when they have thematic choices of similar equity. I also enjoy what happens as the result of error.

I also have players that I cheer for and against. I'm a fan and backgammon as spectator sport is fun. Especially if I can cheer against Mr. huffy pants. Hello Neil.

The other element of interest is the commentary and the entertainment. There is no peanut gallery watching the bots play. I learn from the peanut gallery. Emulating the bot and developing a deep understanding of the game are different things.

In other organized sports/games. there is an incentive for players to perform. Usually money. Players earn for performance as much as winning. Backgammon lacks the sponsorship, ad revenue, paying fans to draw players into engaging with each other.

Does Usain Boldt care if someone else is on the track with him?

At the highest levels of talent/skill in any sport the differentiator is generally a coin toss but the things that happen while they play are what makes it so much fun.

Is there a constructive reason for an open player to train/play other open level players outside of the human interaction? I would suspect so. Does the rather incestuous nature of BG get annoying sometimes and cause players to withdraw or move on to wider pastures. Maybe.

I keep hoping the Persians come to dominate the game with deep priming games that our bot trained set of drones don't know what to do with. Unlikely but I think XG plays its best game rather than the best game to some extent.

... So... Do it for the Fans :)
