Backgammon Master Series Ranking Tournament #4

The fourth BMS (UK) Ranking tournament, kindly sponsored by Tariq Siddiqi, was a great success with a full complement of 16 players, six of whom had not attended a BMAB tournament before, including Alastair Woods and Ian Hesketh, who flew from Edinburgh.Each player played six 11 point matches in a truncated round robin format. At the end of round 5, the five best performing players, Peter, Tim, Jysen, Cecilia and Dale, had 4 wins, each having lost one match. At the end of the tournament, three players had managed five wins, Peter, Jysen and Dale. After splitting the prize monies, these three players rolled dice to determine the tournament title places, with Peter Bennet achieving the Winner title and Dale the Runner-Up. Congratulations!
Congratulations also to all participants for helping to make this such a splendid event and especially to Tariq for sponsoring the tournament.
In addition to the main event, three dogs, Daisy (Pug-Dachshund), Enzo (Fox Terrier) and Dexter (Great Dane-Alsatian) held a concurrent event in the tournament room. In a close run competition Dexter won the title of Best Behaved Dog, a credit to his owner Paul Gilbertson.
PR Results and Gradings Report
The PR results of the tournament are now completed and the BMAB website should soon be updated accordingly. Generally the match recording process went very well with 47 of the 48 matches played fully transcribed. I am very grateful to Alastair, Ian, Jon Barnes and Julian for their contribution in this process and especially to Michael Roumeliotis for his professional service, managing to transcribe 24 matches in 3-4 days. Congratulations to Julian and Lawrence for their superb performances (astonishingly so for Julian), achieving Grandmaster level performances. Also I should mention the excellent master class performances from Charles, Tim, Sebastian, Peter, Dale and Chris (who receives an upgrade from M3 to M2).
Thanks to all participants for making this a very successful tournament. The next tournament on October 24-25, at the same venue, near East Midlands Airport, is being sponsored by Paul Plumptre. This tournament will make provision for up to 24 participants.
