Greedy for Gammons

This is a nice position. Somehow I missed it when you first posted it.

In both positions I would probably have brought the back checker in and then played 5/1(2) to prevent the opponent from coming in on the 1pt and causing me problems later. That's what I would have figured was the play that won the most and since the gammon value on a 4-cube in a 7-point match is diminished, I would not have worried too much about gammons.

What would happen if this were an unlimited game rather than a 7-point match?

Another variation to look at is to change which point is open in White's home board. The deeper the gap, the more Blue should be inclined to play safe I think.
