Quite a difference, which I assume is down to XG not being as sure with backgames.

This position has little to nothing to do with a backgame. I know why you said it, it's just not right. Here, assuming that ++ is better than + which is an assumption I wouldn't take at face value until I did a full rollout, (or if I already knew) I would classify this as a closeout game that + doesn't get right. I'm sure this is a pass though. XG is a donkey sometimes too.
