A couple of tenths a month is pretty good if you can keep it up. If you drop 0.2/month then you'll drop from 7.5 to 5.1 in a year, which I would regard as not only significant and consistent, but dramatic.

I think it really doesn't matter too much how you select positions as long as you select positions at the edge of your understanding and ensure that you make steady and permanent improvement. Focusing on permanent improvement rather than speedy improvement will serve you better in the long run.
