It may be worth noting that for Variant 1 (middle position) diagrammed here, XG also gets it wrong at 3-ply. And for the final position diagrammed in the same post, XG gets it wrong at 2-ply, 3-ply, 4-ply and Roller levels. (And for the 10pt variation I mentioned in the notes, XG gets it wrong at 3-ply, 4-ply and Roller.) Lower-ply misses are not uncommon.

In your variant, the spare on White's 8pt could make it seem worse to stay on the 23pt (e.g., no return hit on 64-53, 65-53). Also attacking a blot could seem better than attacking a point. Perhaps you are trying to make the best-play reversal more obvious (usually not my aim), or just want to move one fewer pip, not sure. Anyway, yours is a fine variant.
