"How long can you play without seeing any improvement whatsoever?"

I'm embarrassed to answer that question truthfully. I seem to have a growth spurt followed by a long plateau. I was looking at my fibs rating last week, and felt good about the overall improvement year by year for the past 4 years. However, I can see a pattern where there is a large rise, followed by a substantial drop, then plateau for several months. Then the process repeats itself.

As I've said before, I'm content with my improvement. It reflects my effort. I don't aspire to be a giant, but I also like to win more often than I do now :O) I'm a greedy little so-and-so!

I'm improving about 2 PR per year, so I can't complain, but I know it's going to require a more disciplined effort to keep improving. That explains my interest in the opening book. Every now and then I have to jump in and dig a little deeper. As Timothy Chow says, you have to go for 'permanent learning'. It's good advice. I want progress, and I'm taking his advice. At my level, progress is easy. Everywhere I look, there is something to be learned. So many people on this list inspire me. That includes the giants, the exceptional players, Timothy Chow, you, Chase and so many others. Like I said, I'm greedy, I hope to trash everyone over the board some day :O) Hey... it's ok to dream, isn't it???
