I've met Steve only once thus far, at one of Chiva's tournaments in San Francisco. During an idle moment between matches on Sunday, we wondered together whether we might get salmonella poisoning from the free burritos. They had been sitting out pretty much all weekend, and their wrappers said to refrigerate them. It was an odd, but memorable conversation.

Since then I have become a fan of Steve's, through watching his matches, and listening to his commentary of other matches. His commentary of live matches is top notch, right up there with Falafel. Everyone else is a step below.

All evidence indicates Steve is a heck of a nice guy. Let's face it. At the top levels of backgammon not everyone likes each other. And, yet everyone likes Steve.

Congratulations to Backgammon Giant, and now Grandmaster, Steve Sax.
