A small variant (one that I have brought up before in a post, some time ago) is this: Instead of simple alternation (ABAB...) you switch after every odd number of games (ABBAABBA...). This stops one player from always playing catch up, you juxtapose instead. Just need to set it out on the scoresheet(s). But if you want simplicity, it's simply ABAB...

Of course, if you really want simplicity... just roll for it every time!
