Thanks! That is what I'm counting on! :-)
Yes I have thought about this but there are so many other fun things to add so it hasn't ended up on the top of my todo list yet.
I don't think you can avoid copyright issues by only sharing material within a closed group. You would still have to ask the copyright holder for permission before you share anything. I'm no lawyer but that is my guess.
Ah. I guess you could argue that you're avoiding copyright problems if you share some content from a book/material if you know the other person also owns the same book/material.
I would love to add more material to my server but finding someone who is able and willing to contribute with some useful content is difficult. Hall provided some challenges with answer comments which is great so I am optimistic that over time more of this kind of stuff will show up.
I did come across some interesting stuff on: http://www.bgblitz.com/download.html which contains some positions from books but I haven't asked if permission to reproduce these positions was given or not. You could argue that you can't copyright BG positions that anybody can come across during normal play but I think a fair amount of effort goes into writing these books so better to ask for permission first.
One book that is perfectly ok to use is the opening book that XG uses and I have been thinking about adding some kind of training ground for openings where you can level up when you answer gradually more difficult sets of opening moves.
I am sure there are many other amusing things that can be added to my server without running into copyright issues.
And with the 762918 positions in the public database there should be a good amount of data to draw from.
By the way, guys! Be careful with the Othello quests! They are nasty! :-) Don't be too shocked if you don't ace those tests! Perhaps I should create a challenge leveling system where you can unlock harder and harder challenges once you ace challenges at a lower level. My problem is how to label challenges with a difficulty level. The easiest is perhaps the 'Terje Pedersens 200' challenges and the hardest is perhaps the Othello quests but then it becomes a bit more tricky. I'll see if I can come up with something.
But first priority is to integrate the new board and make the server work better as an app.
