Timothy is correct. One reason that neural nets work so well with BG is that they are very good as a generalizer. The position you mentioned is to judge with the normale BG rules so the bots understand it very well.
Your reasoning is correct for positions that are *very* unusual. Keep in mind that the nets are trained with million of games (I can give you exact numbers only for BGBlitz: the current AI has been trained in 92 million games.). And additionally there are blind spots albeit few.
