Do you really think that more time in such a microscopic sense would = a better PR?

PR seems like a side issue to me. The real issue is what makes the most pleasant playing experience. The answer to that question is different for different people, and it was one of the hurdles to bringing in clocks in the first place.

If you want to lower time controls without impinging on thinking time, you can do it by switching to electronic dice. With electronic dice, you just press a button and get an instant dice roll -- no time needed to pick up the dice, shake them, wait for them to settle, and possibly reroll when cocked. This cuts at least four seconds per turn. (Up to 8 for some people, so electronic dice even the playing field too.)
