With the current time controls it can take 5 hours to play a 15 point match.

Ridiculous.

I know people have an immediate reaction against change but EVERY great game and sport in modern history has changed many if its okd rules to improve the game for both players and spectators, and we need to be more open to changes as well.

We are playing most tournaments with the same rules and formats as 40 years ago and while its a great game and i love it (i have to say this because any time you recommend a change or improvement some asshole attacks the person by saying they must not love the game because they want to change it--its because i love the game that i want to see it fairer, more fun snd more popular) there are ways to make it better.

David levy says he votes with his feet. Unfortunately that is what many have done. There are many who have stopped going to tournaments or go to fewer because of many things that could and should be changed to make the tournaments more fun, less expensive, more enjoyable, more attractive to sponsors, more attractive for people to bring spouses and children, more attractive to newbies, and at the same time, because of increased attendance and status, still quite financially rewarding for the promoters and the too players who are the ONLY people coming with the hope of making money or a living from the game.

MOST of these ideas and suggestions have been rejected immediately here and by the long-time tournament directors and organizers for a variety of reasons but most boil down to feeling comfortable doing things the way it has always been done snd not liking change. But its also because an individual tournsment director is mostly concerned with keeping his "regulars" happy and he/she is friends with the too players (mostly old-timers) who also dont like change.

What is needed is a "bigger vision" of what is good for the game overall--of course sny change will piss off some people along the way. We sll say we love clocks but a few say they eill never come to a tournament that requires them. Sorry, you cant please everybody NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO.

Some very notable players refuse to be streamed or recorded. Sorry, that helps promote the game and if you dont want the world to see how you play (in the open division) dont come. The list goes on and on.

Faster matches IS MORE FUN to play. And watch. And better for spectstors. And allows tournaments to run more timely. Do PR's suffer some with less time? Probably, but so what? Coming up with the best play or cube decision in a restricted period of time simply becomes one of the more important skill sets to develop.
